HRKC wins Fighting Spirit Award at Shoryuhai Tournament
March 15-16, 2024
Last March, the Harvard kendo team ran another successful Shoryuhai tournament, which maintained its status as the largest intercollegiate kendo competition in the US. With lots of help and hard work from the entire team, Shoryuhai Manager Zeroun Ignis spearheaded an event attended by schools as close as Boston and as far as Texas and California. During the tournament, Harvard's A team was knocked out by the first place team from UC Berkely, but received the Fighting Spirit Award for their efforts.
Gold and Bronze at Boston University Taikai
April 20, 2024
HRKC competed in this year's BUkai, run by our friends at Boston University. Everyone had lots of fun, and enjoyed being cheered on by our alums who came to help out and spectate the event. During the mixed team portion of the competition, where students formed teams with other schools in order to get to know each other and solidify friendships, two of HRKC's members received gold and bronze medals. Thanks to everyone involved for a fun competition and an amazing day!
Successful Gradings during Spring Shinsa
April 28, 2024
Congratulations to our three HRKC members, Alex Karbowski, Tai Ran Tang and Roxy Cumming, who participated in Shinsa gradings last April, all of whom successfuIly passed Ikkyu. In addition, congratulations to one of our Assistant Resident Alumni Instructors, Jia Jia Zhang, who reached Nidan! The team took a road trip down to New Jersey, stopping for plenty of rice balls and other snacks on the way. Overall, everyone had a great time, got to socialize with our wider kendo community and learnt a lot along the way!
